1.Molecular Biology:

The field of molecular biology overlaps with biology and chemistry and in particular, genetics and biochemistry. A key area of molecular biology concerns understanding how various cellular systems interact in terms of the way DNA, RNA and protein synthesis function. Molecular biology looks at the molecular mechanisms behind processes such as replication, transcription, translation and cell function. The Scientist must determine how biological traits are carried from one generation to another. Molecular biologists also analyse viruses and bacteria. They use this information to assist with the diagnosis and treatment of infections found in humans, plants and animals.

2.MicroBiology:

Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms, such as bacteria, viruses, Achaea, fungi and protozoa. Microbes have existed on Earth for billions of years and were here long before plant and animal life began. For the majority of its 4.5 billion year history, life on Earth was exclusively microbial. Microbial cells first appeared between 3.8 and 3.9 billion years ago. The fossilised remains of these early bacteria can be detected in stromatolites - rock-like build ups of microbial mats and trapped sediment. Nitrates are an essential plant nutrient they need the nitrogen for proteins - and the plants themselves provide food for live stock and other animals.

5.Molecular Modeling:

Molecular modeling encompasses all theoretical methods and computational techniques used to model or mimic the behavior of molecules. The techniques are used in the fields of computational chemistry, drug design, computational biology and materials science for studying molecular systems ranging from small chemical systems to large biological molecules and material assemblies. The simplest calculations can be performed by hand, but inevitably computers are required to perform molecular modeling of any reasonably sized system. The common feature of molecular modeling techniques is the atomistic level description of the molecular systems..

6.Drug Designing:

Drug design, often referred to as rational drug design or simply rational design, is the inventive process of finding new medications based on the knowledge of a biological target. The drug is most commonly an organic small molecule that activates or inhibits the function of a biomolecule such as a protein, which in turn results in a therapeutic benefit to the patient. In the most basic sense, drug design involves the design of molecules that are complementary in shape and charge to the bimolecular target with which they interact and therefore will bind to it. Drug design frequently but not necessarily relies on computer modeling techniques. This type of modeling is sometimes referred to as computer-aided drug design. Finally, drug design that relies on the knowledge of the three-dimensional structure of the bimolecular target is known as structure-based drug design.

7.Molecular Interactions:

The processes of melting, boiling, and unfolding involve disruption of molecular interactions (also called non covalent interactions or intermolecular interactions). Molecular Interactions are forces, either attractive or repulsive, between molecules. Molecular interactions are important in diverse fields of protein folding, drug design, separation technologies. Molecular interactions underlie the differences in boiling points of liquids. The boiling point of H2O is hundreds of degrees greater than the boiling point of N2 because of differences in molecular interactions in H2O(liq) versus N2(liq).

8.Techniques in Molecular Biology:

Many biomedical experiments require manipulation of a known quantity of cells, in order to achieve accurate, reproducible, and statistically-relevant data. Restriction enzymes or endonucleases recognize and cut DNA at a specific sequence. These enzymes occur naturally in bacteria as a defence against bacteriophages - viruses that infect bacteria. Transfection is the process of inserting genetic material, such as DNA and double stranded RNA, into mammalian cells. The insertion of DNA into a cell enables the expression, or production, of proteins using the cells own machinery, whereas insertion of RNA into a cell is used to down-regulate the production of a specific protein by stopping translation.

9.Molecular Markers:

Biomarker discovery requires high confidence identification of biomarker candidates with simultaneous quantitation information to indicate which proteins are changing to a statistically relevant degree in response to disease. The discovery of molecular biomarkers has developed new strategies starting from the initial steps. In the first stage of biomarker discovery events, research depends upon mass spectrometry techniques to perform unbiased, semi quantitative analysis of differences between diseased and healthy states. Due to the high false positive rate, the list of biomarker candidates generated in the discovery stage must be further verified through additional more targeted and quantitative mass spectrometry techniques, such as immune affinity peptide enrichment.

10.Cellular Therapy:

Cellular therapy, also called live cell therapy, cellular suspensions, glandular therapy, fresh cell therapy, sick cell therapy, embryonic cell therapy, and organ therapy - refers to various procedures in which processed tissue from animal embryos, fetuses or organs, is injected or taken orally. Products are obtained from specific organs or tissues said to correspond with the unhealthy organs or tissues of the recipient. Proponents claim that the recipient's body automatically transports the injected cells to the target organs, where they supposedly strengthen them and regenerate their structure. The organs and glands used in cell treatment include brain, pituitary, thyroid, adrenals, thymus, liver, kidney, pancreas, spleen, heart, ovary, testis, and parotid. Several different types of cell or cell extract can be given simultaneously - some practitioners routinely give up to 20 or more at once.

11.Molecular Epigenetics:

Epigenetics is the study of heritable changes in the phenotype of a cell or organism that are not caused by its genotype. The molecular basis of an epigenetic profile arises from covalent modifications of protein and DNA components of chromatin. The epigenetic profile of a cell often dictates cell fate, as well as mammalian development, aging and disease. Epigenetics has evolved to become the science that explains how the differences in the patterns of gene expression in diverse cells or tissues are executed and inherited.

12.Advances in Molecular Biology:

Over the last decade, the rapid development of a vast array of techniques in the fields of cellular and molecular biology has transformed whole areas of research across the biological sciences. Microbiology has perhaps been influenced most of all. Our understanding of microbial diversity and evolutionary biology, and of how pathogenic bacteria and viruses interact with their animal and plant hosts at the molecular level, for example, have been revolutionized. There have been a number of major advances in molecular biology in the past few years and the aim of this review is to describe some of these advances, focusing on their benefits and limitations when applied to investigating pulmonary disorders. New technologies either improve existing techniques or develop new approaches to old questions in order to generate information more quickly, easily, accurately or in a more easily repeatable fashion then existing methods.

13.Cellular Molecular Biology:

Molecular or cell biology, is a branch of biology that studies the different structures and functions of the cell and focuses mainly on the idea of the cell as the basic unit of life. Cell biology explains the structure, organization of the organelles they contain, their physiological properties, metabolic processes, signaling pathways, life cycle, and interactions with their environment. This is done both on a microscopic and molecular level as it encompasses prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells. Knowing the components of cells and how cells work is fundamental to all biological sciences it is also essential for research in bio-medical fields such as cancer, and other diseases. Research in cell biology is closely related to genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, and developmental biology.

14.Cancer Molecular Biology:

Cancer is a variety of distinct diseases and that defective genes cause these diseases. Further, gene defects are diverse in nature and can involve either loss or gain of gene functions. A number of inherited syndromes associated with increased risk of cancer have been identified. Specific examples of oncogenes, or cancer-causing genes, and tumor suppressor genes will be presented, along with descriptions of the relevant pathways that signal normal and cancer phenotypes. While cancer is clearly associated with an increase in cell number, alterations in mechanisms regulating new cell birth, or cell proliferation, are only one facet of the mechanisms of cancer. Decreased rates of cell death, or apoptosis, are now known to contribute to certain types of cancer.

16.Developmental biology

Developmental biology  is the study of the process by which animals and plants grow and develop, and is synonymous with ontogeny. In animals most development occurs in embryonic life, but it is also found in regeneration, asexual reproduction and metamorphosis, and in the growth and differentiation of stem cells in the adult organism. In plants, development occurs in embryos, during vegetative reproduction, and in the normal outgrowth of roots, shoots and flowers. Practical outcomes from the study of animal developmental biology have included in vitro fertilization, now widely used in fertility treatment, the understanding of risks from substances that can damage the fetus (teratogens), and the creation of various animal models for human disease which are useful in research. Developmental Biology has also helped to generate modern stem cell biology which promises a number of important practical benefits for human health

17.Molecular Cloning:

One of the most basic techniques of molecular biology to study protein function is molecular cloning. In this technique, DNA coding for a protein of interest is cloned into a plasmid . A vector has 3 distinctive features: an origin of replication, a multiple cloning site  and a selective marker. The origin of replication will have promoter regions upstream from the replication/transcription start site. This plasmid can be inserted into either bacterial or animal cells. Introducing DNA into bacterial cells can be done by transformation, conjugation or by transduction. Introducing DNA into eukaryotic cells, such as animal cells, by physical or chemical means is called transfection. Several different transfection techniques are available, such as calcium phosphate transfection, electroporation, microinjection and liposome transfection

20.Molecular Biology industry:

Molecular biologists work hard to discover specific patterns in certain biological materials and try to replicate the findings in other experiments to formulate biological hypotheses or theories. During their research work, experts in molecular biology attempt to isolate, purify and individually explore a particular component of a cell, such as a specific protein, a fragment of the DNA or a particular signaling molecule, which allows them to understand its function and then integrate and incorporate it in the complex, big picture of cellular function. The reason why research in molecular biology is so important is because the concepts discovered in this manner can be applied to mainstream biology, medicine, wildlife study and protection of endangered animals, food industry, pharmaceutical industry and environment protection. Research in molecular biology literally aims to discover the essence of life and formulate theories of biological function that are applicable in other science fields and in real life.

22.Diagnostic Molecular Biology:

Diagnostic molecular biology is widely used in a number of areas including hematology, immunology and microbiology with possibly the least developed area being clinical biochemistry. Apart from diseases such as cystic fibrosis and genetic hemochromatosis, most genetic diseases tested for in clinical biochemistry laboratories are rare in the general population. However, molecular methods will be increasingly incorporated into all areas of pathology, not to replace current tests but as an aid in evaluating the future risk of disease
