Biography

Kelly Tan has completed her PhD in 2004 at the University of Bern and a postdoctoral study at the University of Geneva. She opened her lab in October 2014 at the Biozentrum, University of Basel where her team dissects the circuitry linked to the basal ganglia, the brain ensemble of structures responsible for coordinated movements. To achieve this, her team combines several techniques from the molecular, the cellular to the behavioral levels with pharmacological and¬¬ optogenetic tools. This wide array of techniques allows the precise identification of neurons involved in specific aspects of motor behavior both in physiology and pathology.
